How CSI and a fintech ISV are enabling a leading mutual society to migrate core banking applications to the Microsoft Azure cloud and provide secure access for its users.
Our joint client: is a member-owned mortgage lender founded over 150 years ago. The society serves its local community through branch infrastructure and digital services offering personal savings, mortgages, and help-to-buy schemes.

The society acknowledges the importance of evolving to meet the changing needs of members and intermediaries. Member feedback shows that while digital services are popular, face-to-face engagement is still valued when making financial decisions.
The society continues to develop its branch network as well as investing in digital offerings.
To support its long-term goals, the society made a key decision to migrate existing IT platforms to a cloud-based platform.
A strategic initiative was launched to build a robust foundation for future growth: scalability and resilience provided by a hyperscale cloud underpinned by a portfolio of managed services.
For many years, the society has partnered with a leading fintech ISV to provide banking platforms that take advantage of open banking and next-generation technology.
In addition to core banking, the society and the ISV are managing a transition to more self-service and mobile applications.
To meet its future growth plans, the society wanted to migrate its current IT environment to the cloud – but had to certain that the current levels of performance and availability of the ISV applications were maintained or improved.
To assist with the transition, the society needed a partner who was skilled with cloud migration and operations but also had experience with ISV applications in that environment.
YOU CAN SIMPLY MOVE CURRENT SYSTEMS DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLIC CLOUD - THIS WILL PROVIDE SOME OF THE BENEFITS, BUT TO REALLY TAKE ADVANTAGE, COMPANIES NEED TO RETHINK HOW THEY WORK WITH NEW TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITY. IF THEY DON’T DO THIS, THEN IT IS SIMPLY PERPETUATING THE PREVIOUS MINDSET.
CSI already had experience with the ISV with a jointly developed reference architecture for their financial applications in a hosted deployment. With this expertise, CSI designed a new cloud environment split across two Azure regions to provide disaster recovery.
Replication between the two regions is provided by Azure Site Recovery and data protection is delivered via Azure Backup, with data stored across different data centres. Low latency / high SLA connectivity is provided via Azure ExpressRoute.
CSI implemented Azure Load Balancing and Azure Bastion to manage and secure the external traffic to the cloud platform.
Cyber protection for the new platform is provided by Azure Security Centre with Azure Sentinel collating log data as well as CSI services for endpoint protection, web filtering, and firewall management.
The migration to a cloud-based platform provides the society with an easy-to-grow and secure foundation to underpin its strategic goals.
The partnership between the society, CSI and the fintech ISV will ensure an evolving digital capability for customers across multiple channels. It also gives the society the ability to launch and manage new types of accounts.
On the successful completion of the migration to Azure, CSI deployed a portfolio of managed services to ensure the success of day-to-day operations and to review performance to confirm that the cloud environment continues to be fit for purpose.
When ISVs deploy on Azure, 58% reported a faster time to market for new products and services.
Half of the respondents will consider moving some sensitive consumer or financial data to the cloud.
ISVs using Microsoft Azure report 3.5 times increase to their pipeline of new offerings.
