HYBRID CLOUD
Hypervisor choice.
Offering a choice of hypervisors ensures that businesses can maintain flexibility and avoid vendor lock-in which is crucial to reduce any financial, architectural and operational impact due to shifts in the market.
Virtualization, Simplified.
Run legacy applications with ease and power cloud-native apps – all on a modern, full-featured hypervisor designed for the hybrid cloud. No complexity, just raw performance.
Broadcom Impact on Hypervisor Market.
For many years, enterprises have designed their virtualisation architectures around VMware ESXi and vSphere with VMware’s market share of the virtualisation market estimated to be over 80%.
Broadcom finalised its acquisition of VMware in November 2023, and this has fundamentally changed how VMware software is marketed and purchased. Broadcom immediately ceased sales of perpetual licences, offering only a few select subscription bundles for purchase.
These changes mean that most organisations are faced with a critical decision regarding which hypervisor to use to virtualise IT resources.

VMWARE CUSTOMERS
Managing Uncertainty.
A widely adopted strategy to manage VMware uncertainty is to incorporate a secondary vendor into your operations. This approach allows you to migrate existing workloads and deploy new ones to the alternative platform, while maximising the value of your VMware investments until their end of life.
Choosing a reliable alternative can mitigate risk and provide the flexibility needed to meet future business requirements.
Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor – AHV
An Unrivalled Enterprise-Grade Hypervisor.
Open source at its core, Nutanix AHV extends advanced virtualisation capabilities to modern hybrid cloud environments. It features a distributed systems core designed for the cloud to solve today’s complex enterprise IT challenges.
Nutanix AHV offers full enterprise-grade virtualisation capabilities:
- Advanced virtualisation including VM live migration, dynamic scheduling, VM HA, and metro clustering
- Highly optimised utilisation and performance with memory overcommit, VM affinity, vNUMA, automated CPU compatibility, AHV turbo and an optimised storage stack.
- Lifecycle management across the entire stack
Hypervisor Migration.
CSI can safely and securely migrate your VMware environment using a two-step approach that leverages the strengths of both VMware and Nutanix, ensuring a flexible and efficient IT environment.
Step 1: Move VMs to Nutanix Platform (Using VMware Hypervisor)
Initially, we will migrate existing VMware virtual machines to the Nutanix platform while continuing to use the VMware hypervisor (ESXi). This step involves:
- Assessment and Planning: Evaluate the current VMware environment and plan the migration. Identify the VMs to be moved and ensure compatibility with the new platform.
- Setup Nutanix Environment: Deploy Nutanix hardware and software, ensuring it is configured to support VMware ESXi.
- Migration: Transfer VMs from the existing VMware infrastructure to the Nutanix platform. This process is designed to be seamless and minimise downtime.
Step 2: Migrate VMs to Nutanix AHV
Once the VMs are running on the Nutanix platform with VMware ESXi, we can migrate them to Nutanix’s native hypervisor, AHV. This involves:• Preparation: Ensure that applications and workloads are compatible with AHV.
- Migration to AHV: Convert and migrate VMs from ESXi to AHV. This step involves reconfiguring the VMs to run on AHV, which is integrated into the Nutanix platform.
- Testing and Validation: After migration, thoroughly test the VMs to ensure they are functioning correctly on AHV. Validate performance and stability to ensure a smooth transition.

Benefits of migrating to AHV
- Cost Efficiency: AHV eliminates the need for separate hypervisor licensing, reducing costs.
- Simplified Management: Nutanix provides a unified management interface, simplifying day-to-day operations.
- Scalability and Performance: Nutanix’s hyper-converged infrastructure offers improved scalability and performance, meeting evolving business needs.
