IBM WebSphere Portal
Capabilities included in WebSphere Portal Server Version 6.0:
- WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer can help you quickly build composite applications from enterprise back-end systems. Portlet Factory allows for faster WebSphere Portal deployments, requiring lower-order development skills than other tools, and helps organisations large and small create dynamic portal solutions that can be easily modified to address changing market conditions.
- Portal applications can be saved as templates for easy customisation, deployment, and 'reuse' by different user communities. WebSphere Portal Version 6.0 delivers significant SOA enhancements through powerful new tools and application templates, enabling the quick building of business services and applications that help accelerate application and content deployment, innovatively delivering on the promise of a service oriented architecture.
- Portal interface includes Dynamic HTML themes, drag & drop customisation, and fly-out menus, to help improve user productivity. This allows portal users to select the application components they need from a fly-out portlet palette, so they can complete tasks faster.
- Policy-based administration allows developers, integrators, administrators and others to leverage custom policies, via a flexible range of methods including an API, XML and the Personalisation Editor. Administrators can restrict use of portal assets to maintain service levels, and policies can be set for given pages, user or groups.
- Improved performance and page throughput, with support for up to 40,000 dynamic portal pages.
- Advanced personalisation allows you to use business-user written rules to show or hide pages and portlets dynamically. This allows Administrators to apply "Personalisation rules" to Web content, portlets and portal pages, and use Business logic to provide a "dynamic" experience.
- Search using external search engines, an enhanced Search Center, or search API (SIAPI). A site map is also included that can provide a secure "outline" of your portal hierarchy.
- Create multiple portal sites on one instance of WebSphere Portal. Each site has its own URL, look and feel, pages, users and groups, and search index, and all sites can share the same software and hardware, helping lower capital, maintenance and administration costs while expanding the business value of portal to new communities.
- Click-to-action (C2A) technology supports portlet-to-portlet communication, ensuring the accuracy of information passed and delivering it on demand.
- Integration services give you access to enterprise data, applications, newsfeeds and Web services.
- Presentation services that allow for the customisation of the computing desktop to match individual work patterns and roles.
- Publish local portlets as remote Web services, and subscribe to Web services to make them available to portal users via portlets
